Real Madrid: ‘Chelsea or Manchester City can have him… for £50m’

|

It was only a couple of seasons ago that headlines scattered the papers regarding a potential £100m move to Manchester City from AC Milan for Brazilian star Kaka. How quickly things change in football; two terms have passed and according to The Mirror Kaka’s price-tag appears to have been slashed. So what accounts for the price-drop and is there any chance that a move to Chelsea or Manchester City could materialise for the 29-year-old?

Of course, Kaka never ended up at Manchester City. He followed his heart, not his wallet and ended up at Real Madrid. I can’t help but wonder now if he regrets his decision. It’s fair to say that he hasn’t had the best of possible times at the Bernabeu since his £56m move in 2009.

It feels strange to claim that a man who has scored 15 goals from the midfield in 37 appearances this season hasn’t had a great season. Yet, his rival in Real Madrid’s squad Mesut Ozil has looked more dynamic and more dangerous than Kaka all season. The reality of the situation is that Kaka’s stature in world football has dropped over the last couple of years. He’s still clearly an incredible footballer, but it seems he’s not quite the player he used to be.

Real Madrid realise this. They know there’s no chance that Manchester City are going to come in with another £100m bid. Those days are long gone and the best they can realistically expect for his services is somewhere between £50-55m.

This brings us to his potential suitors. Chelsea have been linked with Kaka for time immemorial and may now be tempted into making a move for the midfielder. Then there’s Manchester City who have also attempted to snatch up Kaka in the past. Both clubs have the cash to tempt Real Madrid to sell, but whether they’d be willing to stump it up is another matter entirely.

My instinct is that Chelsea won’t be splashing that kind of cash on a midfielder this summer. They’ve been pursuing the youthful Neymar, who would plays a similar role for Santos as Kaka has done for his clubs, would be available for much cheaper and has boundless potential. I fully expect Neymar to have as big an influence on the game as Kaka has done thus far in his career. If Chelsea can secure Neymar, their interest in Kaka will come to an end.

Manchester City are a different kettle of fish. They need to add some attacking flair to their squad and now that they can offer Champion’s League football, Kaka may well be tempted into making a move. There’s no doubting that Manchester City have the money to make a move happen.

We can only speculate at the moment but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Manchester City were to make a bid for Kaka this summer.

City have only ever paid over 30 million once… that was the very first day of the takeover for Robinho. I can’t see them doing it for a 29 year old with injury problems who isn’t as good as he used to be.

sorry but kaka did not follow his head or his heart,he said he would not leave his true love, milan, ui think a large wad of notes changed that

  • Liam says:

Why would Man City be interested in a player that is an older slower version of David Silva with a price tag of £50m. More than likely he will go back to Milan or Madrid will allow him to return to Brazil for cheap. Unless his price is droppped to saround £20m i cant see any interest from english clubs

  • Steve says:

I understand it’s a done deal to bring him to Chelsea.but not at anywhere near £50m at 29 years old. £15-£20m as an absolute maximum which would still be overpriced in my eyes.
