Media Watch: Manchester City declare interest in Arsenal midfielder

|

Cesc Fabregas has courted Barcelona for the last couple of seasons. Is the time right him to make a move? With Manchester City set for Champion’s League action next season, there has been much talk regarding possible alterations to the squad that may be necessary to ensure that it can compete in both the Premier League and Europe. A certain Harry Redknapp stoked the fire on Monday by claiming that Manchester City had a couple of signings already lined-up “who’ll blow your brains out”.

One thing’s for sure: now that City can offer players both money and Champion’s League football, they are a real force in the transfer market. This will no doubt open the door to any number of ridiculous transfer rumours, starting with this one: ‘Manchester City declare interest in Cesc Fabregas’.

Let’s first examine the extent of this interest and then assess the likelihood of Cesc Fabregas making a move to Manchester City.

According to ESPN, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini was asked which player could turn his club into Champions and answered “Cesc Fabregas”. Whilst it’s strange that he chose to target Arsenal’s midfielder over and above the likes of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo we shouldn’t take it as a sign that City are seriously interested in pursuing Fabregas. It’s merely Mancini’s honest assessment that Cesc Fabregas is a player with the kind of quality that would take City to the next level.

Despite their failings this season Arsenal will be keen to keep hold of all their best players and it’s unlikely that they would be willing to sell their captain for any price. After fighting off Barcelona for so many years, Roberto Mancini must realise that there is very little chance that City will be able to swoop down and obtain his services this summer.

If Cesc Fabregas does move from North London, it will be to Catalonia not to Manchester. The Spaniard has stated before that he has no desire to play for any other Premier League team besides Arsenal. When you add to this the fact that Cesc Fabregas is a player who seems to value success over money, Manchester City may find it difficult to tempt him away from the Emirates.

Whilst City are certainly on the way up, the odds must surely be in Arsenal’s favour in regard to any potential domestic or European glory next season. Whilst his ties to his boyhood club Barcelona would be enough to tempt him away from the Gunners, Manchester City have no such bond with the player.

As exciting a prospect as it may be, there’s basically zero chance of Cesc Fabregas moving to Manchester City.

If the players name is not in my transfer link list then no City fan will believe such a transfer rumour, Fabregas is not in my list but you can check for yourself.

Although Fabregas is class talent I don’t believe he is as good as Xavi, we need a young Xavi.
