Lucky, or one of the best goals you’ve ever seen? [Video]

|

Inter Milan won three titles under the leadership of Jose Mourinho last season. Things are looking somewhat different this year and progress in the Champion’s League is looking less than likely after Schalke ’04 smashed Inter 5-2 at the San Siro. Ouch. Things had started so well for Inter too, who took the lead after just 25 seconds through a sublime Dejan Stankovic volley.

The midfielder has a penchant for scoring special goals, but this is by far the best of his career and quite possibly one of the best goals I’ve ever seen. Sure we’ve seen players score from the halfway line before (hello Alonso) but we’ve never seen them demonstrate such technique in doing so. The goal is also the fifth fastest goal scored in Champion’s League history – a memorable moment in every manner. It’s unfortunate really that Inter capitulated in the second half – that’s the kind of goal that should contribute towards something positive, not be rendered a mere consolation.

Here it is:

I have to say, the goalkeeper does a fantastic job at first, but nothing can take the spotlight off of Stankovic – his volley from half way is a real gem. What’s your take?
