Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted talking to Manchester United trio Alexis Sanchez, Scott McTominay and Diogo Dalot after the win against Chelsea on Monday night, according to Manchester Evening News journalist Charlotte Duncker.

The reporter claimed via her personal Twitter account that Ferguson had a “brief exchange” with the three United players as he walked around the Stamford Bridge after Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s men won 2-0 thanks to goals by Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba.

Dalot was an unused substitute in the FA Cup fifth round win while Sanchez and fringe midfielder McTominay both came on in the second-half to help seal a win for Man United that sets up a quarter final meeting with Wolves at Molineux.

OPINION

Ferguson was treated to a real spectacle on Monday night and the legendary former Man United boss will surely be proud of the work that Solskjaer is doing in the hotseat that he once sat in. For him to go on the pitch after the game just goes to show how much he still loves the club and a player like McTominay would have loved the fact that he got a quick chat with him after the game. The Scotland international has found opportunities hard to come by this season, with his last-minute appearance against Chelsea on Monday night being just his 10th outing of the entire campaign across all competitions. The 22-year-old has a lot of potential but he will not reach it by being left on the bench or left out of the matchday squad entirely. It might be best for him to move on in the summer or at the very least find a club to join on loan. Clubs in the Premier League should be queuing up to sign McTominay, who is bound to have been boosted by whatever Ferguson said to him at Stamford Bridge.
