Why Arsenal should take the money and run

|

Cesc Fabregas has courted Barcelona for the last couple of seasons. Is the time right him to make a move?Written by Joe Austin from FootballFancast.com: The future of Cesc Fabregas has been discussed in detail for the last two years. Ever since he has become a top class midfielder, he has been linked to his boyhood club, Barcelona. Arsenal do not rely on Fabregas and his presence in the squad has become disruptive. I think Arsenal should sell Fabregas this summer.

If Fabregas leaves, Samir Nasri can take over the central role. Nasri has been excellent this season and I fully believe he will become as good as Fabregas (if he is not already). In Jack Wilshere, Arsenal have another exciting central midfielder. Wilshere has out-performed Fabregas at times this year and I believe he is good enough to play in a three man midfield. With the combination of Wilshere and Nasri I don’t think Arsenal will miss Fabregas.

So, not only do Arsenal have sufficient cover, but I also think Fabregas has given all he can for Arsenal. It seems to me that everyone has been talking about the fact that Fabregas has not won any major silverware, more than they do about Arsenal not winning any silverware. This is a distraction for the other members of the squad.

Before the Barcelona game, Fabregas hugged and joked with the Barcelona players. That night Fabregas looked like a kid in a playground, not a general going into battle. I cannot imagine Patrick Vieira or Tony Adams acting in this way. The night was ‘his’ not Arsenal’s; he was returning to his old club. I don’t think that benefitted anyone in the team, a captain should be more professional. At the Nou Camp, he put personal history before the future of Arsenal.

Arsenal is a club where the future is always talked about. They have developed ‘next-year syndrome’ where improvement and development are more common than success. This is something they need to rectify. The Fabregas-Barcelona saga in the last two years has contributed to an attitude where people consider the future of Arsenal and not the present. I say let him go this summer and be done with it.

If Fabregas leaves, Arsenal could be left with between £35-45m; a huge amount of money. With that cash, Wenger, being Wenger, could buy four good players with the potential to become great. I would rather see him buy two quality players in their prime.

Which areas to invest the money would be another matter, personally I would like to see them try and involve Mascherano in the transfer, a defensive-minded midfielder, who is disciplined in a positional sense, could be just what Arsenal are missing. But there are also problems on the wing and in goal to remedy. If Fabregas leaves, who should Arsenal bring in?

I have heard many people calling for the purchase of a new defender but I don’t think that is necessary. Thomas Vermaelen is going to be fit next year, his return will make a difference. Furthermore, Djourou has developed well. Interestingly, Arsenal have conceded just 8 goals in the 17 Premier League games Djourou has started and kept 9 clean sheets.

But before I get any more carried away with future transfers, it needs to be said that Barcelona might not buy him. Their fans are definitely not convinced. Xavi and Iniesta currently boss the Barcelona midfield and are two of the best players in world football. Xavi is 31, so while Fabregas is the ideal long term replacement, he might not be a regular for another three or four years.

I doubt Fabregas would want to leave Arsenal for anywhere other than Barcelona. So if they do not make a good enough offer this summer, the player will remain at The Emirates. This could mean another few years where the Fabregas story takes precedent over Arsenal’s.

No one in our team has the vision and ability to make killer passes the way Fabregas does when he is on his game.

Cesc is too slow for the Barca midfield-he would not get in the team and would be second choice in every big game. Within 12 months he would be desperate to leave and get more playing time. His game is more suited to Italy then Spain. He needs to be patient and wait at least a couple of years before he goes back home-when he can go back on his terms.
Arsenal are dependant on Cesc-they cant win without him-Nasri is no replacement-Arsenal need to buy a replacement or 2.
Barcelona their fans and journalists are full of nonesense-take Messi out of that side and they pose half the goal threat that they currently do. Messi is by far the best player in the world-and he makes a good team great.

That is typical hate. There is Villa and pedro. Bojan and plenty of other youth. Barca created Messi and i’m sure they have created others that need the same chance as him. Barca stil win without him. They have natural goalscorers unlike some clubs who rely on one player to create an impact

hahahaha take messi outta the equation…LOOOOOOOOOOL not the 1st time i heard it…why don u take the ball outta the game and let the minds only play…then i’m sure your “Visionary” coach will win all the titles…cos thats all he seems to be good at…”DREAMING TO WIN TITLE”…goonerjay how could u even think of typin such a line…”take messi out and we are ordinary”..Jealous, hate Watever u wanna call it…be a sport…messi and Barca are a 2 way course…they give he gets and he gives they get…obv our aim is to give our best player the ball…and obv his job is to score…I don see United send the ball to nani to score all the time…its a strikers job…oops i forgot…who is ur striker???…

Let him go . Top class player win the game all alone. Let him go back to Almeria or wherever that place is… Arsenal needs players who love the club, by the way Arsenal needs fans who can make changes, not fans who give bilions of money to the club and still have faith in creature called Wenger . Enough of it … I want Mornho at the club and i want money to spend . Guess what… I’ll give a silly example : When you enter at Emirates Stadium, if you ask a question, it costs 1 pound and this is all because of Arsenal politics who suck our money and do nothing for the fans . I want changes, radical changes and i dream of trophies.

Enough of Denilson, Bentdner, Chamakh,Rosicky, Gibbs, Almunia, Lehmann, RVP, Fabregas ect ect – Can anyone build a club?

are u serious? Arsenal have shown they can cope without him? Ive watched every game this season and whenever hes out we strugle to create chances. He is the only player who can make a chance out of nothing. If Fabregas is sold that will be the end of Arsenal

  • Browny says:

Nasri is not a replacement for Fabregas. Nasri does not have his passing range from deeper. Nasri is more dangerous nearer the lead striker. Wilshere is far more like Fabregas and can bring the ball from deep and, even if not at his consistent standard yet, has the passing range of Fabregas. when playing alongside Cesc Wilshere will often take up the slightly deeper role letting Cesc roam forward more. In fabregas’ absence he needs to be encouraged to get forward more but in recent games with no Song also there is not sufficient cover behind him to allow it with Denilson and Diaby not up to this job at this level. What we need therefore is another quality deeper lying midfielder who can have Wilsheres back and let him try and influence the game higher up the pitch. I also still don’t see RVP as a lead the line striker and often think he looks isolated up top on his own. I think it is a waste of his talents in his ability to receive the ball to feet and link up play. He is also one of our best players for playing that little defence splitting pass. He doesn’t have the pace to get on the balls played in behind and would be better suited to a slightly deeper role alongside Nasri with both behind a quick and lethal striker. RVP will still score goals from this role, possibly more, as he will be harder to pick up and is intelligent in the runs he makes into the box. So for me rather than drop Nasri deeper keep him higher up the pitch and bring RVP deeper with both of them playing behind a new striker and get better DM options to free up Wilshere.
