John Obi Mikel’s move from Chelsea to Valencia hinges on whether the La Liga side want to buy the Chelsea outcast or go for Simeone Zaha of Juventus.

According to a report in The Independent Mikel has agreed terms to join Valencia but UEFA Financial Fair Play rules mean that they will have to chose between Mikel or Zaha.

Complicating the equation is the resignation of Cesare Prandelli who had almost completed the deal to take Zaha to Spain following a disastrous loan spell at West Ham.

Mikel has resisted a massive cash offer to move to the Chinese Super League but now faces some uncertainty over whether he can join Valencia.

Chelsea are prepared to let Mikel go for free provided he moves outside of England with the Nigerian internationalist failing to make a single appearance under Antonio Conte this season.

If the Valencia deal breaks down the 29-year-old has an option to join Marseilles but after lengthy talks a move to Spain is the preferred option.
