Sven Bender

According to reports from The Telegraph yesterday evening, Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender.

The 26 year-old has been with the Black-Yellows since 2009 and featured prominently in the side that reached the Champions League final in 2013. In total, he boasts 168 appearances for the Westfalen outfit, alongside seven caps for the German national team.

But the sacking of Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season has put Bender’s future in serious doubt, with replacement manager Thomas Tuchel leaving the tough-tackling midfielder on the bench for Dortmund’s Europa League fixture against AC Wolfsberger earlier this week.

Mirror Football, citing German publication Bild, linked the brother of Lars with a move to Arsenal earlier this summer – also claiming Tuchel hopes to remove the £2.2million per-year earner from the wage bill.

But according to The Telegraph, north London rivals Spurs are currently proving the most proactive in the race for Bender’s signature.

Alongside the 6 foot 1 defensive mid, the British newspaper claim the Lilywhites are also targeting Stuttgart forward Timo Werner, Bayer Leverkusen’s Christoph Kramer and Schalke winger Sidney Sam.
