Chelsea eye Spurs star as cheaper alternative to Ghana prodigy

Left Back - Danny Rose

According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Chelsea have asked Tottenham to ‘name their price’ for defender Danny Rose.

The Blues are in the market for a new left-back following Filipe Luis’ return to Atletico Madrid and they appear to be on the verge of completing a deal for Augsburg’s rising star Abdul Rahman Baba. Recent reports have claimed they’ve agreed a £17.6million fee with the Bundesliga outfit and personal terms with the Ghana international.

But according to Mirror Football, the Premier League champions now have one eye on Tottenham’s Danny Rose as a cheaper alternative.

The 25 year-old was amongst the best-performing English No.3’s in the top flight last season, claiming three goals and four assists in 28 appearances whilst averaging 2.8 tackles per match.

The British tabloid claim Jose Mourinho launched an enquiry into Rose’s availability over the weekend. He rates the former England U21 at around £15million and hopes Spurs will have a similar valuation – allowing Chelsea to sign him at slightly less than their agreed fee for Abdul Rahman Baba.

Tottenham may be willing to sell for such a high price, considering they signed another left-back last summer in Wales international Ben Davies. Centre-halves Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertongen can also fill in at No.3 if required.

But having signed a contract extension until 2019 only last summer, Spurs are uner no pressing obligation to cash-in on Rose.
