Jaime BaezHow Liverpool miss Luis Suarez. It seems a little bit trite to say that at this stage, but it’s true. When he left in the summer, it was clear that his absence was going to bring with it a fleet of issues and problems. Brendan Rodgers did his best to find a solution, by bringing in a few new players, but he’s failed to add enough flair (or end product) to his forward line.

The Reds need a little more inspiration in the area of the pitch. The longer they persevere with players like Mario Balotelli, the more they’ll slip down the Premier League table. They should be building on last season’s successes, not struggling to keep pace.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool have their eyes on ‘the new Luis Suarez’. Well that’s one way to solve the problem I suppose.

There comes a stage in every young player’s career when they earn comparisons to more famous players of the same nationality. Such is the case with Uruguayan striker Jaime Baez. The 19-year-old has played 49 games for Atletico Juventud and has found the back of the net 9 times. That’s not exactly a Suarez-like return, but the youngster’s pace, energy and technical ability is there for all to see.

He’s still a teenager. It would be foolish to expect him to be scoring goals left, right and centre. That will likely come somewhere down the line.

As such, it’s easy to see why Brendan Rodgers might be interested. According to the aforementioned source, Liverpool are weighing up a £3.2m deal for the youngster. He’s not exactly going to break the bank is he?

Whilst he may never blossom into a player who is as good as Luis Suarez, he’s still worth a gamble. The Reds need to try something in order to get their season back on track, after all.

What’s your take? Is Jaime Baez the solution for The Reds? Do they require more experienced options?
