Cristiano RonaldoOver the last week or so, there’s been a huge amount of speculation regarding Cristiano Ronaldo and a potential move back to Old Trafford.

When there’s a chance that one of the best footballers in the world wants to join your club, there’s plenty of cause for excitement. Manchester United fans must be giddy. They’ve already brought in world-class options like Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao. Could Ronaldo be the next man through the door?

I guess it pays to forge a connection with these players at a young age. Ronaldo played out the majority of his formative years at Old Trafford. He has a genuine affinity for the club and for Manchester in general. Even since leaving The Red Devils back in 2009 (as part of an £80m Real Madrid deal), he’s always kept on good terms with the fans and has had nothing but nice things to say about the club.

In particular, he’s stayed friendly with Sir Alex Ferguson, the man who essentially set him up for the big time. Fergie was a mentor figure for Cristiano Ronaldo and that’s the kind of relationship you don’t forget about too easily, even if you’re a multi-millionaire.

Sir Alex’s United exit may have lessened the club’s chances of re-signing Ronaldo, but according to The Metro, there’s still a reason to be hopeful. The source suggests that Manchester United bosses will ask Sir Alex Ferguson to ‘persuade’ Ronaldo to make a shock return back to Old Trafford.

They also suggest that United are willing to offer Real Madrid £60m in order to close the sale, whilst paying Ronny £300k-a-week. In other words, this deal won’t come cheap. It’ll be yet another big money signing on the part of The Red Devils.

Still, you can’t help but feel that the script is already in the process of being written. If anybody can steady Manchester United’s ship, it’s Ronaldo. And who wouldn’t want to see him back in the Premier League, wearing a United shirt?

It would be almost true good to be true.

What’s your take? Could Cristiano Ronaldo ever return back to Manchester United?
