C Ronaldo 3Manchester United fans would have been delighted to see their club sign Angel Di Maria in the summer, but I think they would have been even more excited to see their club sign his former team-mate, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Of course, The Red Devils have a deeply ingrained connection with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese wizard played out his formative years at Old Trafford, making 196 appearances for United between 2003 and 2009. He found the back of the net 84 times during his stay.

Since leaving the club, he’s gone from strength-to-strength and he now seems to be at the peak of his game. He’s a worthy rival to Lionel Messi, who is probably the best player in the world. Just look at his statistics from throughout his time at Real Madrid. He’s made 250 appearances for his club and has scored 255 goals. This is an absolutely outrageous return.

Of course, Angel Di Maria will be a hit at Old Trafford. He’s too good not to be. But how Manchester United fans would love to see Cristiano Ronaldo return one day.

Well here’s some good news: The Metro claim that Manchester United are readying a £60m bid for the Portuguese ace. The source suggests that Real Madrid could be prepared to sell this summer and that the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes has the power and the influence to force the deal through.

The source also suggests that The Red Devils will pay Ronaldo £300k-a-week if he returns to Old Trafford. In other words, this would be a hugely expensive deal.

It’s risky to offer aging players big money deals. Cristiano Ronaldo is 29-years-old. Radamel Falcao is 28-years-old. But the players Manchester United are signing are so gifted that they’re likely to have a massive impact on the club over the next two or three years, regardless of their age. If they can get The Red Devils back on track, then they’ll prove to have been astute signings.

Besides, imagine the belief and energy re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo would create. He’s one of the best players in the world and he loves Manchester United. It would be foolish to pass this opportunity up.

What’s your take? Could Manchester United really re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo?
