Mohamed DiameWith Liverpool very much on the up, it’ll be interested to see how their transfer prowess is effected. Since arriving at the club Brendan Rodgers has done a fantastic job in the transfer market (Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge are two great gets), but this summer he’ll be in charge of a club with all new levels of appeal.

For the first time in a long while, players will want to pick up a link to Liverpool football club. That puts Brendan Rodgers in a very strong position indeed.

Of course, with all these links making their way onto the back pages of the tabloid papers, there’ll be the occasional few that don’t look like a good fit for the club.

So where does that leave Mohamed Diame, West Ham’s gifted midfielder? The 26-year-old recently commented on his links to Liverpool football club. Check out the quotes here, courtesy of The Metro:

“Two years ago [before joining West Ham] I wanted to join a team with ambitions. Overall, my season has been okay, although I think it is not up to last season. I started badly, but gradually I got my bearings.”

“Liverpool? I can’t tell you if I will be a Liverpool player next season. But I think my name is still on their wanted list. I don’t hide it, I’m ambitious and I want to join a top-six side. I am 26 years old and it’s time to take that step.”

I can’t tell you if I will be a Liverpool player next season, but I will be cryptic enough to attract the attention of the UK Press. As Diame notes, he’s had a mixed bag of a season. He stands out at Upton Park, because he’s a lot more technically gifted than the club’s other midfielders and he has a great engine, but would that make him a good fit for Liverpool?

I’m not so sure. Brendan Rodgers has young players like Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson in his first team and Diame’s arrival at Anfield would limit their playing time. What’s more, I’m not sure that he’d be anything more than a squad player at Liverpool.

I’d say it’s time for Liverpool to start aiming higher. They’ll be able to attract some of the world’s best players this summer and I’d like to see Rodgers go for it.

What’s your take? Is Mohamed Diame a good option for The Reds?
