21 year old midfielder Adam Wharton’s star has long been on the rise following his very impressive breakthrough at Ewood Park and Blackburn Rovers, and in the January 2024 transfer window Crystal Palace were convinced and happy to spend a claimed £22 million in total on his services to bring him to Selhurst Park.

He has done well and won plenty of admirers as he adjusted to the Premier League level, and after a period of being sidelined by injury, the one capped England international has returned with a bang and has not really looked like he was out injured for three odd months.

With the speculation rumour mill now linking him to a number of the ‘considered’ top sides in the top flight, it is now being suggested that his career could take an alternative twist and his next potential move could well be to Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Naturally, this leans on Jude Bellingham’s prior move to the Santiago Bernabeu, but with Wharton fully expected to be named in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad, the buzz around his future is only set to grow. With Real’s chief scout Juni Calafat a supposed known admirer of the player, he has reportedly sent club staff to watch the midfielder in person on a number of occasions now and they are likely being considered a prime suitor come the summer.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool have also heavily been linked with having an interest in him, but with Palace now understandable looking at a valuation in the region of £70 million, he will likely be too rich for a number of his natural options unless the Eagles were willing to maybe look at a smaller initial outlay in return for a better deal over a number of seasons.

For Palace though, it is likely not the only interest that they will face from rivals both home and abroad this summer, as although Wharton features heavily on the transfer window rumour mill right now, their fans will also have valid concerns when it comes to the futures of the likes of fellow key players Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

It looks set to be a busy summer At Crystal Palace if the rumours and interest proves to be true, but Wharton will certainly likely feature heavily as the remainder of the season ticks by when it comes to just what might be on the cards for him.
