Kieran Trippier will sign a new Tottenham contract when he returns from the World Cup next week, according to a reliable journalist.
Football London’s Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold claimed in a question-and-answer session (Friday, 3.47pm) that the right-back will pen a new deal when he returns from Russia in the coming days.
Gold explained Mauricio Pochettino “loves” Trippier and he is a very popular figure within the club and dressing room.
Good move for Tottenham?
Tying down key players to long-term contracts is essential for any club with ambitions for big things and to protect their prize assets. Spurs have not been able to agree a new deal with Toby Alderweireld a year after losing Kyle Walker to Manchester City, but they have had great success in keeping hold of their other star men. Trippier now falls into that category after an impressive season for his club was followed by an outstanding World Cup, in which he looked the best right-sided defender on view. Of course, the former Burnley player is far more than just someone who negates the opposing left winger. His overlaps, crossing on the move and dead-ball expertise is at an elevated level and wonderfully consistent.

Given how strong Gold has gone in on the new deal, it appears to be a matter of time before Trippier puts pen to paper. Spurs fans will look forward to the now-traditional image of Pochettino with his arm around a senior player who has just committed to a new contract.
