Football writer Alasdair Gold believes that Tottenham Hotspur youngster Pape Matar Sarr could save the club millions in transfer fees in the future.
At the beginning of this season, Spurs splashed a reported £14.6m on the talented midfielder, before loaning him straight back to Metz for the rest of the season.
While writing an article for football.london, Gold named Sarr as a youngster who could ‘burst on to the scene’ next term, and if he reaches his full potential, he could ‘save Daniel Levy millions’ a lot of money down the line.
The journalist explained the case of Sarr, writing: “For most Spurs fans, the Senegalese midfielder is the summer signing they might just have forgotten about.
“Just 18 when he was signed, such was Tottenham’s desire to beat others to his signature, Pape Matar Sarr was snapped up for around £14m from Metz and loaned straight back to them to continue his development for another season.
“The teenager is rated as one of the brightest young prospects in the French league and has already played 41 Ligue 1 matches despite his tender years.”
He then concluded: “It is said that the teenager adapted quickly to life in France when he arrived in 2020 and if he can do that again in England when he arrives this summer after a season to prepare, Spurs will have a real talent on their hands.”
TIF Thoughts on Pape Matar Sarr and Tottenham…
Despite still only being a teenager, the 19-year-old holds a regular spot for Metz in Ligue 1. Indeed, this season he has featured in 19 league games.
Will Pape Matar Sarr be a future star for Spurs?
Yes
No
Impressively, for a player of his age, he already has 45 senior appearances for the French club and has even netted five goals despite predominantly being a defensive midfielder.
If he can make a smooth transition to English football in the next few seasons, it looks as if he really does have the potential to be a star at the heart of Tottenham’s midfield for many years to come.
Fans may have forgotten about him in the short term, but it seems as though they’ll likely be reminded of his talent soon enough.

He’s certainly not the answer to our problems, buying top quality in all departments is, Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis need to make available a decant sized transfer budget for the summer or sell up, it’s time to back probably the best manager we’ve ever had, if not it wouldn’t surprise me to see him walk.
