Arsenal’s crushing defeat against Manchester City only seemed to reveal what we already know: Arsenal need to sign another striker.
It also proved that if you heap pressure on this Arsenal defense, it will crumble. I didn’t think that a side that had Per Mertesacker in it was capable of shipping six goals, but the big German was pulled over the place throughout the game. The loss of Laurent Koscielny certainly didn’t help things.
But I digress. Arsenal need another striker and fast.
I thought that the City game boasted Olivier Giroud’s worst performance of the season. Put it down to tiredness if you will, but Giroud was pretty poor from the get go. His touch was lacking, his lack of pace was on full display and he didn’t managed to hold the ball up at all.
If Theo Walcott wasn’t on hand to smash home a couple of goals, the scoreline would have been even more embarrassing for the Gunners.
With Giroud growing increasingly fatigued and seemingly offering less and less, Arsenal need more options. With Yaya Sanogo still out injured and Nicklas Bendtner operating as a walking punchline, the January transfer window can’t come soon enough.
But who should they go in for? How about Swansea City’s gifted Spaniard, Michu, who is currently the source of attention from Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and yes, Arsenal (source: The Star). That’s an impressive list of suitors.
If Arsene Wenger has been keeping his ear to the grapevine, he’ll certainly have picked up on this quote from the Spaniard himself:
“Every player dreams about playing in big teams, clubs who play in the Champions League and fight for titles, I am no different. I’m very happy at Swansea but it is obvious that every player wants to grow up and see how far you can go.”
It’s unfortunate that injuries have plagued his second season in English football. Last year he scored 22 goals in 43 games. He quickly built on that this season, steering home 5 goals, before being forced into a period of convalescence.
I can’t help but feel that he’s ready for a move to a big club.
Of course, Swansea City won’t sell their leading man on the cheap. But Arsenal do have the money to make a deal happen. Let’s hope that Wenger is able to make yet another big deal happen.
What’s your take? Should Arsenal be chasing this highly-regarded Spaniard?

How I wish Arsene Wenger will listen to the voice of his supporters worldwide and do the needful, by signing up Michu – who by far is a complete poacher than Giroud is. Please note that Giroud is a good finisher on his day, but Michu is still a step or two ahead of him and needed much more ate the emirates.
Who regards him highly? He is as ordinary as Giroud – we need a real striker “a la Rinaldo or similar” must have ball sense and technique – Giroud is a blunder bus steam rolling on – he has no football finesse – no… he is not an Arsenal player – he and Bendner are one of a kind- in fact Bendner has more technique than Giroud, and he is also twice as lazy – Giroud use to work hard.
We don’t want more of them… bring us a true arsenal type ball player and we shall get the goals
l totally agree with SAGunner’s comments. with Giroud as the main striker, arsenal will never win a major trophy. having said that I don’t rate Michu any better than Giroud. Diego Costa is our man if Wenger can get him. I don’t even care that he is champions league tied. he could still help arsenal win the premier league.
I didn’t know stupid people still exist in the 21st Century but it look like I am wrong, all of them have to journalism !!
