Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is ready to offload right-back Serge Aurier in the January transfer window, as part of a big squad-shakeup, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims that Pochettino wants to add players to his squad but knows he has to get rid of some names first.
Mousa Dembele, Vincent Janssen, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, Fernando Llorente, Michel Vorm and Victor Wanyama are all up for sale or loan.
But the Mail claims that Serge Aurier is on the list too, which comes as a big surprise.
Aurier signed for Tottenham for £22.5million from PSG in the summer of 2017 and is on a reported £80k-a-week in north London.
OPINION
Aurier has been hit and miss for Tottenham, but this still comes as a big surprise. It’s the first we’ve heard of Aurier being up for sale or for loan, and it shows that Pochettino is determined to clear out players who aren’t up to scratch, in a bid to bring in better players. Kieran Trippier is still the number one right-back at the club, but this would be great news for Kyle Walker-Peters who came in and was so brilliant for Spurs in their Premier League game against Bournemouth. He registered three assists in the 5-0 victory before being promptly dropped for the next game. Getting rid of Aurier would open him for a bigger run in the side, something the Tottenham fans would be delighted about. They’ve been calling for him to play more all season and it could be that his emergence as a solid talent at right-back has convinced Pochettino that Aurier can go.
