Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is no stranger to media headlines of late, as with no new contract seemingly to be agreed at Anfield, the 26 year old highly rated full back is set to become a free agent next summer when his existing contract naturally comes to an end.

Given he has had a sterling career at Liverpool since breaking through from their youth Academy, the 33 capped England international has long been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona and with potential pre contract agreements to be signed in the New Year, January could be an interesting month for fans.

With speculation continuing to mount about his future, the player has recently been in front of the press and he has made some interesting admissions. Whilst none of his admissions directly speak to what could happen in January, or at the end of the season, plenty of fans will read into them and take it as proof that he sees his future elsewhere.

Arne Slot’s vice skipper had long made it known that one day he would love to captain the Liverpool team on a full time basis having previously had a taste of the armband, but he has now walked back from that and stated that his future ambitions are squarely focused on proving himself to be the best full back in the modern game, if not history, by lifting the prestigious Ballon d’Or trophy. He even stated that this new desire comes ahead of captaining Liverpool, and even lifting a trophy with England.

He went on to say that he wanted to retire as a ‘legend’ of the game, having achieved more than just winning trophies and medals, which is a little bit of a change to how he was speaking last month where it seemed that trophies were the all important achievement that he wanted to look back on in later years after his retirement. That change in focus may be what Liverpool fans hold on to when thinking about hints for his future, as it does imply that something has changed.

Whether or not his new focus is because of something going on in the background with relation to a future move remains unknown, but the Ballon d’Or has been dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and a certain few select clubs for far longer than I can even remember, so there will certainly be those out there who feel should TTA twist to the Bernabeu, his chances would only simply increase.

It’s very much a case of watch this space right now.
