There cannot have been a football fan in any corner of the country who did not realise that Tottenham Hotspur would be far poorer without England international striker Harry Kane. Spurs knew it themselves, but with the 33 year old’s desire to actually win something during his career, and the £100 million German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich offered, it was too good to turn down.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium fans have had to be content with their concerts, NFL matches and lager that fills from the bottom up. Although it must be said that in amongst the relegation battles that show no sign of changing under Roberto De Zerbi despite finally discovering they had cash to spend, everybody’s mate Ange Postecoglou defied the odds on new betting sites in Ireland and did lift the Europa League trophy in a brief moment of ‘how the hell?’.
For Kane, having left the season before, he will have no regrets at missing out on that success. Arriving in the City of the Oktoberfest in the summer of 2023, he has had plenty to drink to and salute as he embraced his inner Lederhosen. Having now racked up 87 starting league appearances for the Bundesliga giants and serial title winners, he is now one goal shy of the 100 goals mark. Factor in their other competitions and the annual Champions League adventures – an additional 52 starts has returned a further 51 goals.
That is not too shabby a record is it, but by the same token, Kane’s prowess and talent in and around the penalty has absolutely never been in question, but now his mantelpiece truly represents that. Bundesliga titles from the 2024/25 and 2025/26 campaign. A DFB-Pokal in 2025/26 and a double Franz Beckenbauer Supercup in 2025 and 2026 and all gained since 2023. He only had two League Cup runners up medals (2014/15 and 2020/21) and a Champions League runner up medal (2018/19) to his name despite his 14 odd year professional spell at White Hart Lame.
And it was another weekend of successful action for him as the London native, who had once been rejected by bitter north London rivals Arsenal for being ‘a bit chubby’, smashed in number 150 for Die Roten and his 446th goal in the professional game. It was not a great day for Bayern as they faced newly promoted minnows Elversberg and eventually came out as 2-1 winners – but Kane got the assist for their opening 26th minute goal, before finding the net and securing all three points with his own strike in the 72nd minute of the match.
It should be noted, however, that Elversberg have already beaten both Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Moenchengladbach this season – and it is their debut season in the German top flight.
With him now off the mark for the 2026/27 campaign and soon to close in on his 500th career goal, it is now all eyes to the annual 2026 Ballon d’Or, and with the award ceremony no longer dominated by uber favourites Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. With the ceremony being held in London in October, Kane is now one of the favourites to no longer be ignored as they consistently went with the easy option in voting.
