Tottenham are reportedly locked in a straight transfer contest with Liverpool for Xherdan Shaqiri – and a section of Spurs fans on Twitter have claimed it is a race they’re happy for their club to lose.
The Gambling Times, run by ex-Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey, claims the Champions League finalists are firmly in pole position to land the Switzerland international as it boils down to a move to Anfield or White Hart Lane this summer for him.
It is said Liverpool are to table “a better financial package” than Spurs for Shaqiri, who has a £13million release clause in his Stoke contract following their relegation from the Premier League.
That has gone down well with Tottenham fans, who do not believe the 26-year-old is the answer to their side’s transfer needs this summer.
Shaqiri is proven in English football and his £13million clause is far from huge in modern-day Premier League terms but there is no outcry from the section of supporters who took to Twitter to react to the report.
Comments included “best news yet” and “get in” as the Spurs faithful took a positive stance on their club set to lose out on the player.
