According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Arsenal and Manchester United have suffered double-blows in their missions to sign new front-men this summer, with Ligue 1 stars Alexandre Lacazette and Edinson Cavani both ruling out Premier League moves.
Lyon’s Lacazette has been in stunning form to net 25 league goals this year – a tally bettered throughout Europe’s five leading top flights by only Lionel Messi and Cristano Ronaldo.
Building upon a 22-goal haul from last season and now firmly in the reckoning for the France national team, many expected the 23 year-old to move on this summer, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United all keen on his services – according to a report from The Daily Star.
But they quote the winger-forward as saying; “It is too early to speak about opportunities of leaving abroad. In any case, it will be a footballing decision.”
“I would like to sign a contract extension. I am good at Lyon, and if I feel that the project will continue advance, I can see myself staying. Even if we don’t win the Champions League,” he added.
Meanwhile, PSG star Edinson Cavani has also ruled out a summer move to England, despite his fall-out with manager Laurent Blanc – as This Is Futbol informed you earlier this month.
Man United were preparing a £300k per-week contract offer to keep him from Arsenal’s clutches – as revealed in another TIF report.
But the Uruguay international has now informed the press; “There’s too much talk about my future. I’ll stay here and respect my contract and think about doing well for PSG,” as reported in a separate article from The Daily Star.
Although both clubs are expected to sign new strikers this summer, they clearly won’t be from Ligue 1.
