There’s been a lot of grumbling about the lack of creativity in Manchester United’s midfield. The great majority of fans feel that players like Michael Carrick, Anderson and new signing Marouane Fellaini, simply aren’t capable of conjuring the creativity that the Red Devils need to be at their free-flowing best.
In Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney, Manchester United have two of world football’s best strikers. With the right service, both players can score goals for fun. Whether they’ll get the kind of service they desire is still up for debate.
I can’t help but wonder if Robin Van Persie is currently looking at Arsenal’s midfield, which boasts Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere and wondering if he could have scored more goals had he stayed at the Emirates. At least he has the silverware to comfort him.
Given this purported lack of creativity, it makes sense that United should attempt to build from the back. The Red Devils have always been a defensively sound side. I can’t help but feel that it’s time to go back to basics and use this as their foundation this season. David Moyes should make clean sheets the order of the day.
With this in mind, I was excited to see Nemanja Vidic’s recent announcement. After suffering knee ligament damage back in December 2011, the big Serbian centre-back has struggled to put a series of games together. Last year he made just 23 appearances.
But things seem to be different this season. He’s already seen out three full games of Premier League action. What’s more, he seems to be feeling good. Check out these quotes from the man himself: “It does not worry me because I’m feeling well, I’m training well. The injury I had, it was like an accident on the pitch – some player stood on my leg and I had the ligament problem.”
“I had a good four, five weeks of training, and that helps. Now I start at the same level as them, and I can gradually go up and be better.” (Source: The Mirror)
That’s great to hear. If Manchester United are to build from the back, Nemanja Vidic will be essential this season. Keeping him fit and healthy will be key. With him in the team, Manchester United are considerably more difficult to break down. His presence will help United to see out games that they may otherwise have thrown away.
So let’s hope he’s able to stay fit and guide the club to some more silverware.
What’s your take? How important will Nemanja Vidic be this season?

It’s great to hear Vidic is slowly getting back to his normal best. We will need him.
But the most valuable player for Manchester United is KAGAWA. He is the playmaker United need to trust in. The sooner Moues sees it the better of United will be.
I just have the feeling that suddenly the problem is not the midfield but the manager.
It is important to trust your experienced players, players that have proven that can win you games when given the chance.
And also our youth..
Januzaj, ZAHA and now that Fellaini is in, KAGAWA should play behind Rooney and V.Persie.
I really hope that this manager of ours opens his eyes and does the tight thing .
KAGAWA JANUZAJ ZAHA in ,YOUNG ANDERSON CLEVERLY OUT.
Simple..!
