OPINION
Aston Villa are about to make a statement as they face a return to the Premier League, after prominent journalist Kristof Terreur claimed they had signed 22-year-old Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes.
The news was officially confirmed by Aston Villa on Thursday evening subject to a work permit and international clearance.
The reported £22million fee would smash their previous transfer record of £18million for Darren Bent and fans are understandably thrilled with the news.
The striker, who stands a commanding 6’3″ tall, scored 17 goals for Brugge last season – including two in the Champions League – and added 10 assists. Both West Ham and Newcastle were after him, with his agent confirming their interest in May.
If he gets his work permit it will represent a major coup for Aston Villa, who found massive success with Christian Benteke when they signed him from the Jupiler League seven years ago.
Could Moraes have the same impact in the Premier League? If he does then Aston Villa will have picked up one of the bargains of the summer. And Villa fans certainly hope this is the case.
Here are the best reactions from excited Villans:
