According to reports from The Metro this morning, in-demand Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has been ruled out of action for up to three months with a tibia injury.
Carvalho has been linked with a move to a top European club for some time, with Arsenal and Manchester United particularly keen on the midfield enforcer; who claimed the Player of the Tournament award at this summer’s U21 European Championship.

It’s claimed the Gunners have already tabled a £28.5million bid after failing to sign the 23 year-old on deadline day last summer, whilst Red Devils gaffer Louis van Gaal requested weekly reports on his progress last season – although it remains to be seen whether United are still interested after securing deals for Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger this week.
Carvalho’s contract includes a £32million release clause but it’s now extremely unlikely he’ll be moving to the Premier League this summer.
According to The Metro, the Portugal international has suffered a stress fracture in his tibia and could therefore be sidelined for the next twelve weeks.
