The odds of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moving to Liverpool before the transfer window closes have been slashed to just 4/6 by a leading bookmaker.

The significant move in the market happened after Oxlade-Chamberlain reportedly turned down a £40million move to Chelsea.

BBC journalist David Ornstein announced the development on his official Twitter account on Tuesday night.

He also reported that the Liverpool bid was expected to be lower than £40million and that if a deal can’t be agreed the player will stay at Arsenal.

The reason for rejecting Chelsea was reported to be that Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to play in central midfield and feels that Chelsea see him as a right wing-back.

Following this major development, leading bookmaker BetVictor announced that the odds of Oxlade-Chamberlain moving to Liverpool had been slashed from evens to 4/6.

These odds mean they see the move to Liverpool as more likely to happen by end of play Thursday than not.

The odds on Chelsea signing the player have dropped to 3/1, with the next nearest club way back at 25/1.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 198 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 20 goals. He has won 27 England caps and scored six goals for his country.
