Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to transfer links with ‘modern-day Arturo Vidal’

|

Ahead of the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Juventus and United States international midfielder Weston McKennie as newly appointed manager Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his squad.

According to Calcio Mercato, Lilywhites director of football Fabio Paratici, who bought McKennie to Juventus last year,  remains keen on the American while Conte considers the dynamic midfielder to be the modern day version of Arturo Vidal.

The former Schalke man enjoyed a fine campaign with the Italian side last term, bagging five goals and two assists in 34 Serie A matches, but has struggled to become a regular fixture in Massimiliano Allegri’s first choice XI this season.

Although McKennie is starting to get more game time under the Italian in Serie A in recent weeks, Allegri has often tended to prefer the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Rodrigo Bentancur and new signing Manuel Locatelli in the central midfield starting berths.

Should Spurs sign McKennie?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The United States international is an industrious, technically gifted and dynamic player, capable of playing as either a number six, eight and ten. If signed, he would compete with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli for a starting position within Conte’s midfield.

The links linking the north London club to the American has subsequently seen Spurs fans take to Twitter.

What did these Spurs fans make of the transfer link?

“93rd player link. Levy gonna be skint in January”

“Yessirrrrr”

@getchoboydawg

Make this happen. Going to be a world beater, American lads always bring energy and passion.”

@SpursYankee

“As an American, I’m on my knees”

@ChipCOYS

“If papa conte wants him then fine”

@thfcmxtt

“Omg yes!!”

With the futures of Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele remaining to be seen while Giovanni Lo Celso continues to severely underperform, Tottenham may feel a move for the former Schalke midfielder, who offers a real physical presence as well an attacking thrust, could prove to be an incredibly astute one as Conte aims to revitalise his squad in the upcoming transfer window.
