Has Wenger placed too much of the burden on this young but talented midfielder?

|

Ramsey and the rest of the team put in the kind of quality and fighting performance which they had failed to give in recent weeks and The Welshman eventually scored the winner and picked up the Man of the Match award which gave Gooners across the country hope for the following season.

This season has been Ramsey’s true breakthrough year.  Following the departure of star midfielders Samir Nasri and Fabregas, along with the long-term injury of fellow young playmaker Jack Wilshere, Aaron has been nearly ever-present in a growing and encouraging Arsenal team as they have recovered from a disastrous start.

He has been given license to support Captain Robin van Persie and play in an advanced midfield role as the experienced campaigners, Alex Song and Mikel Arteta, sit in front of the defence and form a protection for the team.

He has produced many quality performances where he has become the heartbeat of the team and the most creative member of that midfield.  It has been difficult for such a young and inexperienced player to have all that responsibility and he has appeared to suffer from this at times but there have been standout performances to counter the harshest critic.

These include many assists along with the late winner away to Marseille and seeming to lead the fight back in the FA Cup against Aston Villa in January.  However, the best showing was no doubt in the 5-3 win at Chelsea where Ramsey caused havoc in the Blues’ midfield along with providing assists for his teammates in a fantastic win in West London.

It has become clear this season that Ramsey has an important and long-term role in the Arsenal midfield where he will only grow and get better as he gains experience and develops as a top-class playmaker.
