Which League Is Truly The Best In The World?

|

Inter, again, appeared in and won the Champion’s league just a few years ago, therefore the quality within the league is still competitive enough to produce world beaters, however the quality has dropped in recent years, making the league more competitive, yet with few outstanding teams. However certain areas have dropped significantly in recent years, as teams attempt to outscore the opposition leaving defending as an afterthought, and therefore preventing the league competing with the top two heavyweights.

Finally we have the Spanish and English leagues, with quality from all over the world appearing week in week out to perform to a worldwide stage. Barcelona and Real Madrid are arguably the best two teams in the world at the moment, with teams dreading a trip to the Nou Camp and Bernabeu respectively.

On their day, Barcelona are unstoppable, and even on an off day, they can carve apart oppositions similarly to that of the Spanish International team. However in terms of competitiveness, it seems that they fall short of the English Premier League. Barcelona and Real Madrid are favoured for every game, with other teams, including strong clubs like Valencia and Athletico Madrid not coming close to challenging them for the top 2 places.

Barcelona and Real Madrid attract the best players from all over the world to strut their stuff in Liga BBVA, and having experienced the atmosphere of the Nou Camp, I personally would rather see Barcelona dominate Real Mallorca, than see Manchester United grind out a 1-0 victory over Swansea. Yet with the English League, things are different. As seen QPR can beat Chelsea, Manchester United can draw with Stoke and Arsenal can perform terribly against much inferior opposition for the entire start to a season.

Furthermore, who is to say that if Barcelona were to face a side like Stoke, and upset wouldn’t be on the cards, as if I was to bet on the likes of Peter Crouch, Rory Delap and Ryan Shawcross utilising their aerial expertise against a relatively small and weedy Barcelona team, my money would be on the red and white striped underdogs. The competitive element of the Premier League is therefore still evident and unrivalled, and this combined with the ability to watch games in around 212 different countries around the world, and with the 2nd highest average attendance rates, it appears statistically the English Premier League holds the edge on the Spanish.

The conclusion appears that from a footballing side of things, Spanish football is consistently more appealing to watch, however based upon previous statistical results surrounding attendance, trophies and all round competitiveness, the Premier League edges the Spanish league, leaving it the overall best league in the world.
