Is This Years Relegation Battle Going To Be A Classic?

|

Blackburn will be there or there abouts despite the signings they made and their recent victory over Arsenal, I just don’t think they have enough quality to reach the promised land of mid table mediocrity.  As well as Blackburn, Norwich will have a fight on their hands despite their strong start as well as Swansea, who are trying their best to play the game properly but whether that will get them to the magic 40 I am unsure.

Even teams that last year were solid are under more pressure this year, Sunderland have made a really patchy start to the season and losing Asamoah Gyan could be a hammer blow to their chances this year, Steve Bruce was already under pressure and I can only see that building as the season continues unless their form improves.  The same could be said of West Brom who were comfortable last year but now look a bit more precarious.

Wolves survived on the last day last season, and although they made a flying start this year they are now slipping down the table again, Wigan too barely survived last year and if anything are weaker this season after losing flying winger Charles N’Zogbia.  Fulham have made a patchy start and could be involved in any battle, there Europa League participation could hinder them bringing the total number of possible teams to 7.

Clearly a lot can change and there might be other teams getting sucked in, but whilst the race for the title seems to be slightly less exciting this year with it appearing that the Manchester clubs will slug it out, the relegation battle looks like it could be the one to keep an eye on.  I won’t be making a prediction just yet, but I think come Christmas those 7 teams will be entangled around each other as we head into the new year.

I am a huge Manchester City fan, but also a fan of football as a game. I like to watch games at all levels, from Blue Square Premier, right up to the Premier League where I have a season ticket at City. I really enjoy writing for This Is Futbol because it allows me to give my thoughts on the very latest pieces of football news. I also run thoughtsfromtheinvisibleman.blogspot.com for all things Manchester City.
