Where does the balance of power lie: Manchester or London?

|

Chelsea have had a steady start to the season, although they have won 2 of their 3 openers the performances haven’t been up to the standard expected from Chelsea. The key for Chelsea’s season for me is can they get Fernando Torres firing? Torres has looked sharp and put in a man of the match performance against Stoke. If Torres does start finding the net, I think Chelsea will be firm contenders for the title.

Onto Manchester United. The champions have started the season in great form, taking maximum points in their first three games. In the transfer window United brought in Spanish U-21 Goalkeeper David De Gea, Blackburn and England U-21 defender Phil Jones and  Ashley Young from Villa. De Gea has had a rocky start at his new club but clearly has immense talent and will grow in confidence in the coming months, Phil Jones looks like a man in a boys body, comfortable on the ball and fitting right into the team looking like he’s been there for years, I strongly believe Jones will go on to captain his club and country.

Ashley Young has had a great start at his new club, fitting right into the United way, linking up well with Wayne Rooney who also has started the season in fine form. Perhaps the only thing that’s niggling Man United fans is that it’s clear to see they need a quality central midfielder to compete with Barcelona. Now Paul Scholes has retired, many fans, United players and former players were hoping for Wesley Sneijder to come to Old Trafford. Sneijder himself at one point saying he was open to the move.

He would fit the bill perfectly but the transfer did not materialise and with the way Tom Cleverley has started the season,  maybe that’s not such a bad thing. It look’s as if Fergie is building yet another team at United, with youngsters such as De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Cleverley and Welbeck, merged with the senior players, it’s going to take a strong challenge to knock them off the perch of English football.

To conclude I think the haven of English football will be Manchester and stay that way for years to come. I believe both City and United have far too much quality for Arsenal and Chelsea, so it will be fascinating to see which club will emerge as the best in the land.

If the Financial Fair Play rules do what they say on the tin, Mansour City certainly and very likely Abramowich FC will be banned from the European Competitions. The 4 big teams will then be Manu, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham. Let’s review this article in a year’s time…

      Is that what you want?

Sky 4, but with Tottingham, your club?

No competition, ever widening gap due to Champions League profits?

      Boring.
