Where next for this ex-Chelsea and Manchester City star?

|

When he moved to West Ham, the deal stated that if they survived he would be available to move there on a permanent basis.  I can only speak for myself, but I definitely feel a great deal for West Ham, they are a club that I have always liked to watch and I have a lot of time for them so I wanted them to survive.  The concept of them taking Bridge of our hands only added to that desire to see them stay up!

The Hammers were relegated though, so what next for the man that has been capped by England on 36 occasions.  There have been mooted suggestions, Everton were linked to Bridge whether it be as part of a City move for Leighton Baines or not, and there has also been talk of him moving to Newcastle should Jose Enrique leave the North East.  The one thing that is certain is that with the potential signing of Gael Clichy there is no room for him at City. Even with the questionable ability of Aleksandar Kolarov he is still light years ahead of Bridge.

I suppose ideally the former Southampton man would be suited to a newly promoted team, but could they afford his sky high wages?  I don’t think Roberto Mancini would expect a huge amount of money for Bridge, but whether he is willing to take a pay cut in order to secure regular first team football remains to be seen.  QPR probably have the financial muscle to put together an attractive pay package for the left back but would they really want him?  Injuries are also taking their toll on the player and sadly what pace he once possessed has now been greatly diminished.

Gary Cook and co have found it difficult to bring players in this Summer and with players like Bridge they could have an equally difficult challenge to move players on.  I still think he could do a job for a team in the bottom half of the table, but he still has time to run on his contract so does he have enough passion for the game to leave? I suppose we will find out soon enough.

I am a huge Manchester City fan, but also a fan of football as a game. I like to watch games at all levels, from Blue Square Premier, right up to the Premier League where I have a season ticket at City. I really enjoy writing for This Is Futbol because it allows me to give my thoughts on the very latest pieces of football news. I also run thoughtsfromtheinvisibleman.blogspot.com for all things Manchester City.
