Before we get into the nitty-gritty of multi-million arrivals, let’s not rule out what Chelsea already have – namely, a very exciting young talent in Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Admittedly, the 20-year-old doesn’t have much experience at first team level, registering just eleven senior appearances for the Blues thus far. But he possesses all the requisites to become a top player, blending an imperious 6 foot 3 frame with technical tidiness and a desire to drive forward.
If Chelsea are to ever improve the connection between their hugely successful academy set-up and the first team squad, products like Loftus-Cheek need to be given chances.
Of course, it remains to be seen if he’s ready for a recurring role in Chelsea’s starting Xi. But the berth of games between now and the end of the season should be treated as his chance to audition.
