Arsenal were linked with Crystal Palace’s James McArthur earlier this week and although perhaps an underwhelming target at first glance, he could prove to be a very astute addition.
The Scotland international has been a pivotal influence on the Eagles’ impressive rise and although he’s not exactly a world beater, he is a very consistent midfielder; this season averaging 2.2 tackles, 2.4 interceptions and one created chance per match whilst recording an 86% pass completion rate.
Experienced in the Premier League and well-balanced between defensive and offensive duties, the all-round centre-mid would at the very least be a dependable presence in the Arsenal midfield.
The concern, however, is that beyond the current season, he wouldn’t be much more than a bit-part man at the Emirates.
