After scoring 22 goals during his final season at Lille, Tottenham were leading the pack to sign then-prodigious winger Eden Hazard, one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe during summer 2012.

Both Harry Redknapp and the Belgium international have since confirmed he was very close to moving to White Hart Lane, until a historic night for Chelsea in Germany.

Victory in a penalty shoot-out over Bayern Munich saw the Blues clinch their first Champions League title, and despite finishing lower than a fourth-place Spurs in the Premier League that term, subsequently took their place in the following campaign’s Champions League tournament – a precedent set by Liverpool in 2005.

In Hazard’s own words, that ‘tipped the balance’ in Chelsea’s favour. Tottenham haven’t finished in the top four since, whilst the Blues star has emerged as one of the top wingers in world football.
