With English football fans fresh into the New Year and the January transfer window, struggling Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has expectedly dipped into the market in an attempt to solve their current goalkeeping woes, but the capture of Antonin Kinsky is a risky one.
Sat in 12th place in the Premier League table following four defeats in their last six matches, many Spurs fans would point to the injury sustained by No 1 Guglielmo Vicario as he fractured an ankle back in their 4-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in late November, and back up Fraser Forster still has not regained that form between the sticks that previously gained him international action.
With Forster missing the defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday, 25 year old Brandon Austin made his league debut for them so seeing Czech goalkeeper Kinsky arrive from Slavia Prague to improve Postecoglou’s options is not really a surprise, but his inexperience will be.
The London side are believed to have struck a deal in the region of £12.5 million for the 21 year old, and although the deal is still subject to a work permit being granted and his international clearance, he has signed a contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until the summer of 2031.
How quickly he makes his debut for them is currently open for debate, but if their gaffer does decide to throw him right into the mix, fans will certainly be hoping that he can play his part in helping to keep a few more clean sheets as two wins in the last eleven games over all is not a compelling statistic.
The young lad joined Slavia Prague from Dukla Prague back in 2021, and after some time out on loan for experience, he established himself as their number 1 stopper and he already has 29 games under his belt in the campaign of 2024/25, keeping 14 clean sheets across all competitions in the process.
Kinsky is yet to make his full debut for his country, but he has represented them at age groups from Under 15 upwards, and currently has four Under 21 caps to his name.
His arrival at the club is their first piece of business during the month of January, but given the season they are having many would expect Kinsky to be the first of a few new faces to come through door as Postecoglou looks to get them back on an upward curve to silence some of the criticism that he is currently facing.
