The 2023 summer transfer window continues to generate plenty of headlines, both on and off the pitch and with plenty of big money moves already going through in the last few weeks, with pre season build up games now underway, it is only a matter of time before fans get their first look at new arrivals.

One such new arrival is quite a coup for former England international David Beckham, as a while ago it was confirmed that former Barcelona legend and World Cup winner Lionel Messi had agreed a deal to join Beckham’s Inter Miami MLS franchise.

The deal for the 36 year old seven time Ballon d’Or winner became official a few days ago and speaking to the media, the attacker was looking forward to his new adventure.

“I’m very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States. This is a fantastic opportunity and together we will continue to build this beautiful project. The idea is to work together to achieve the objectives we set and I’m very eager to start helping here in my new home.”

For former Manchester United Academy graduate, Beckham, the transfer was a real focal point of his own long term plan for the new side, adding himself.

“10 years ago, when I started my journey to build a new team in Miami, I said that I dreamed of bringing the greatest players in the world to this amazing city. I wanted players who shared the ambition I had when I joined LA Galaxy, to help grow football in the USA and to build a legacy for the next generation in this sport that we love so much. Today that dream came true. I couldn’t be prouder that a player of Leo’s calibre is joining our club, but I am also delighted to welcome a good friend, an amazing person and his beautiful family to join our Inter Miami community. The next phase of our adventure starts her, and I can’t wait to see Leo take to the pitch.”

With Messi set to make his debut against Liga MX side Cruz Azul on July 21 in their opening Leagues Cup match, his unveiling at Inter’s DRV PNK Stadium certainly whetted the appetite of fans, as around 20,000 supporters braved downpours and lightning to watch him hold aloft the No 10 shirt.

Former Barcelona colleague Sergio Busquets was also unveiled at the event on Sunday evening.

The signing has definitely boosted Miami’s profile further, and now we have to see what he can bring to the pitch.
