Everton’s Yerry Mina’s contract runs out at the end of the season, with decisions still to be made over his future.

What’s the latest on Mina’s contract situation?

The Colombia international’s time on the blue side of Merseyside may be coming to the end if no decision is made quickly due to the contract expiring in the summer, as his future remains “up in the air,” according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who recently spoke to GIVEMESPORT about Everton’s contract issues.

Jones said:

Mina, I guess it’s a bit up in the air. He probably will believe that he should be in this team now; I think there’s a chance that he will leave.”

How has Mina performed over his Everton career and is time up?

This season, the 28-year-old titan has made just three Premier League appearances, having found himself in the periphery of the squad in both Frank Lampard’s and Sean Dyche’s tenures.

Despite this, the former Barcelona centre-back was once a key figure for the Toffees – during his first three seasons at the club after signing for £27.2m, Mina made 66 Premier League appearances and averaged a high matching rating of 6.86 in the latter of these seasons, as per WhoScored.

However, an injury-plagued time at the Toffees has made it hard for the former Palmeiras defender to build up consistency under any manager in recent seasons, which has led to others being ahead of him in the pecking order.

The £120k-per-week titan has had some successful seasons for the Toffees, though.

In the 2020/21 campaign, his third at the club, the “monster”, as described by former Everton defender Michael Ball, made 24 appearances for the side that came 10th in the league, where he scored two goals, via FBref.

Nonetheless, it appears that Mina’s highest levels in the blue shirt of Merseyside are behind him. As a result, it is time to move on for the Guachene-born defender. The €12m-rated (£10.5m) beast had previously had interest from AC Milan for his services, due to an injury to Simon Kjaer.

Despite the interest from the Rossoneri, a concrete offer wasn’t made for the 28-year-old and he remained in England for the future seasons.

Everton will be grateful that Mina will be able to leave for certain in the summer, but not being able to recoup any of their £27.2m will be damaging for the club – particularly with the financial fair play (FFP) investigation.
