Ally McCoist and Laura Woods have given their verdict on Michael Keane’s equalising goal and performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

What did Laura Woods and Ally McCoist say about Michael Keane?

Speaking the following morning after the match, the talkSPORT presenters praised Keane after his long-range goal equalised against Spurs at Goodison Park (4th April 2023, 06:08am).

Woods first said: “He actually scored the most amazing goal. He then goes on to score an equalising goal which was an absolute banger.”

McCoist then replied: “That’s what Michael Keane does, he just gets involved in everything. There is never a dull moment, he is a modern-day action man.”

The 30-year-old titan’s strike came after he had fouled Cristian Romero in his own box, which forced referee David Coote to award a penalty to the visitors. Keane was then involved with the red card to Lucas Moura, as the Brazilian’s late challenge caught his shin.

How did Keane perform against Spurs?

The €10m-rated (£8.8m) defender’s performance was at the centre of the feisty affair between the two clubs. Firstly, Keane, who had a 92% pass success rate via Sofascore, cleared Harry Kane’s strike off of the line to keep the scores level.

However, after Abdoulaye Doucoure had been sent off for striking Kane in the face, Keane gifted Spurs a chance to break the deadlock by fouling Romero inside his own box.

The £80k-per-week colossus, who wasn’t dribbled past during the entirety of yesterday’s match, then went on to equalise with his third shot of the match – his second on target. After Spurs left room on the edge of their box in the final stages, something which caused them issues against Southampton a just weeks prior, Keane delved forward and latched a strike away from the rooted Hugo Lloris and into the Spurs net.

Keane’s performance was an influential display of what he can bring to Sean Dyche’s side. The pairing have previously worked together at Burnley, but the “modern-day action man” as McCoist labelled him, brought out a display that even his current manager may not have expected.

The 30-year-old’s four clearances and one blocked shot demonstrated his defensive prowess that he possessed on Monday night, whereas his last-minute equaliser showcased what he can provide in attack.

Keane’s goal has elevated Everton out of the Premier League’s relegation zone and into 15th position. The former England international will hope that his redemptive performance will be a turning-point of the Toffees’ misfortune.
