West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has completed his return to training following a month-long injury period, according to ExWHUEmployee on The West Ham Way.

The details of Fabianski’s injury

The 57-cap international faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines after fracturing his cheekbone and eye socket during the Hammers’ thumping 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on 25th February.

The veteran shot-stopper collided with Reds defender Felipe and had to be replaced after 69 minutes.

The 37-year-old had been one of David Moyes’ most reliable and consistent performers, as he started all of West Ham’s 24 Premier League games prior to the injury.

This news will be joyous reading to Moyes and his staff as the east London outfit currently occupy one of the relegation spots and face a desperate battle to avoid playing Championship football for the first time since 2012.

What’s the latest on Fabianski’s injury?

Ex spoke on the long-awaited and upcoming return of the former Arsenal goalkeeper who has been a stalwart of the side since his transfer to West Ham in 2018.

He said:

“As far as I’m aware, unless something happens in the next internationals this week – because there’s still a few games to play – then West Ham are going to have a fully fit squad, including [Lukasz] Fabianski, who is back in training now with a face mask, but should be available.

“So we’re going into that game with what I hope will be a fully fit squad, whereas Southampton have got quite a depleted one. So an absolutely massive, massive game for us, that game against Southampton.”

Fabianski to be key in relegation scrap

After securing consecutive top-eight finishes in the last two seasons, West Ham now face the unwanted reality of a jaw-dropping relegation fight that sees just four points separate 12th-placed Crystal Palace and bottom-side Southampton.

The former Swansea shot-stopper has the fifth-highest overall rating in the squad this season and has established himself as one of the most important components of the side.

Their next game against the Saints is set to be a relegation six-pointer and a convincing victory could be the turning point in a bitterly disappointing season.
