Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their eyes on Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as a potential candidate to replace Antonio Conte at the north London club.

After being knocked out of the FA Cup and the Champions League recently, questions have been raised regarding Conte’s future at Spurs.

With that in mind, it has been revealed that the Lilywhites have already identified a potential replacement for the Italian, but face competition from of one Europe’s top clubs.

According to a recent report from Correio da Manha Weekend (via Sport Witness) Spurs are leading the race to appoint Amorim, who still has over three years left on his contract at the Portuguese club, but face competition from Paris Saint-Germain.

The report also adds that the Sporting manager has a release clause in his contract worth €20m (£17m), which means that Daniel Levy will have to splash the cash to appoint Amorim anytime soon.

Having been appointed as Sporting’s manager back in March 2020, the 38-year-old has taken charge of 146 games with the club across all competitions, winning 100, drawing 20 and losing 26 in the process.

In terms of what Sporting’s strengths and style of play has been under Amorim, WhoScored list some of their strengths as their ability to attack down the wings and create chances through individual skill.

Then with their style of play, WhoScored claim Amorim’s side play a possession-based game with lots of short passes as well as attacking through the middle and attempting through balls often.

Bearing in mind how Spurs (743) have racked up fewer passes into the final third than the likes of Wolves (797), Leicester City (806) and Brighton (909) in the league this season, as well as having seven clubs with a higher average of possession than them (50.5%), it’s easy to see why they have apparently identified the Sporting boss as a potential replacement for Conte.

Moving forward, should Spurs find themselves needing a new manager before next season starts, they should definitely consider approaching Amorim, who has been hailed as ‘sensational’, to see if he’d be willing to take control of the north London side.
