Pundit Frank McAvennie has shared his thoughts on the recent reports linking Mauricio Pochettino with a potential return to the north London club to replace Antonio Conte.

Recent weeks have seen questions and doubts crop up surrounding the Italian and his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In fact, it has been reported that Pochettino is in the frame to make a return to his former club in the summer, with some current players even pleading with the Argentinian to do so.

Tottenham Hotspur fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with an easy one: Gareth Bale

This has since led to one pundit sharing his thoughts on the situation.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie said this about Pochettino and the possibility of him replacing Conte at Spurs.

He said: “Is it good to go back? Pochettino is a good manager, but I think that about Conte as well. Conte is one of the elite and he has a certain way of doing things.

“Somebody told me that the players were asking Pochettino to come back. I do not think that can be right, why would you not want to play under Conte? It baffles me. The breed of footballers nowadays never ceases to amaze me.

“I just think my god why would you not want to learn off someone like Conte? I know for a fact that he has been trying to buy a centre-half and they will not give him the money. He needs to go and spend big but I do not think that will happen.”

Bearing in mind how some Spurs fans have recently shared their wishes to see Pochettino make a return to the north London club, this shows how much they admire him and that they think it should be time for Conte to leave.

Would Mauricio Pochettino be your first choice target to replace Conte?

No

With the 51-year-old delivering Tottenham their highest ever Premier League finish back in the 2016/17 season where they finished second, as well as getting them to the Champions League final in 2019, it’s easy to see why the supporters are hoping to see their former manager take over from the current head coach.

Moving forward, regardless of McAvennie’s belief in Conte, if Daniel Levy thinks a change in the dugout is necessary, it’s clear that getting Pochettino back in would be a very positive one for the fans and the players.
