Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have their eyes on signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt.
Even though the next summer transfer window is still some months away from opening, Spurs have already set their sights on securing the services of someone currently playing in one of Europe’s top leagues, but face competition from a close rival.
According to a recent report from Deutsche Welle (via Sport Witness), Spurs and north London rivals Arsenal are interested in signing Brandt this summer.
The report also adds that with the midfielder’s contract at Dortmund set to expire in the summer of 2024, the interest in him could convince the player to not sign a new deal at his current club and instead look to make a move to the Premier League.
With 159 appearances under his belt for Dortmund across all competitions, the 26-year-old has scored 29 goals and delivered 30 assists along the way.
This season has seen Brandt deliver more goal contributions than any other Dortmund player in the Bundesliga this season, scoring eight times and providing four assists.
In addition to that, the German has also racked up more shot-creating actions (95) than any other player at the club, further highlighting how much of an attacking and creative influence he has in the team.
Would you like to see Spurs sign Julian Brandt?
His overall performances in the league have earned him an overall season rating of 7.25/10 from WhoScored, ranking him joint-sixth in that department across the division.
Described by talent scout Jacek Kulig as a player who “has it all” in terms of his playing ability, Brandt could be an ideal signing for Spurs given how they have six clubs above them in the Premier League this season with a higher rate of shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (24.15).
With all of that in mind, once the summer transfer window opens, we feel that Spurs should do all they can to beat their north London rivals to Brandt’s signature.
