Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

The north London club have shown how capable they are when it comes to spending significant amounts of money to sign new players.

Looking ahead to the next summer transfer window, the Lilywhites find themselves in the race to sign a player who would likely require a club-record fee from Spurs to land.

Tottenham Hotspur fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with an easy one: Gareth Bale

According to a recent report from German media outlet Bild (via Sport Witness) Spurs are battling their fellow Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The report also adds that an offer of €100m (£87m) would be enough to get Leipzig talking about a potential sale this summer.

Despite having a release clause in his contract worth £97m, this isn’t set to become active until the summer of 2024.

During his time at Leipzig, the 21-year-old has made 77 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with five goals and four assists.

His latest appearance for the German club may well have put him off the prospect of playing against Premier League opposition on a regular basis, as he was part of the Leipzig team that lost 7-0 against Manchester City in the Champions League.

With that to one side, the Croatian, who has been described by Fabrizio Romano as a “monster” on the pitch, has shown his defensive credentials in the Bundesliga this season.

Should Spurs sign Josko Gvardiol this summer?

For example, with 22 league appearances to his name, the youngster has the third-highest average of clearances (2.4), interceptions (1) and blocks per game (0.5) at the club.

Even though only five clubs have faced more shots on target in the Premier League than Spurs (116) this season, which suggests they could do with some extra defensive reinforcement, securing a deal for Gvardiol would certainly be a massive investment for the club and Daniel Levy to make.

Taking all of that into account, if Spurs would be willing to stump up the money Leipzig would want for their defender and believe he’d be a suitable signing for them, they should do all they can to beat their top-flight rivals to his signature this summer.
