Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a potential summer transfer move for midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

The north London club have been particularly busy during their previous transfer windows in terms of bringing new players in, some of which have come from fellow Premier League clubs such as Richarlison, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma.

While the next summer transfer window is some months away from opening, it has been claimed that the Lilywhites have already set their sights on potentially signing another top-flight player.

Tottenham Hotspur fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with an easy one: Gareth Bale

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham have their eyes on Ward-Prowse and could make a move to sign him in the summer should Southampton find themselves getting relegated from the Premier League this season – and it is easy to see why.

With 396 senior appearances for the south coast club to his name, the 28-year-old has scored 52 goals and delivered 51 assists.

Having played every minute of league action for Southampton this season, the midfielder has found the net six times and provided two assists, leaving him with more goal contributions than any other player at the club.

In addition to that, the Englishman has the highest average of key passes per game (2.1) in the squad as well a higher overall performance rating than any of his teammates, with WhoScored giving him a rating of 6.96/10.

Would you take James Ward-Prowse at Tottenham?

The Saints captain has found himself on the end of heavy praise in the past for his ability on the pitch, with Pep Guardiola lauding him as an “exceptional” player, further highlighting how much of a capable top-flight figure he is.

One factor in the £100k-per-week midfielder’s game that could excite a lot of Spurs supporters should the club end up signing him is the number of free-kick goals Ward-Prowse has scored throughout his Premier League career.

Therefore, should the Saints find themselves getting relegated at the end of the season, we think Antonio Conte’s side should definitely make an approach to Ward-Prowse to see if he’d be willing to start a new chapter in his career away from Southampton.
