Former Tottenham Hotspur player Alan Hutton has shared his thoughts on the possibility of seeing Mauricio Pochettino replace Antonio Conte at the north London club.

Recent weeks have seen questions and doubts raised over Conte’s future at the club, with his current contract set to expire in the summer.

In terms of a potential replacement for the Italian, one familiar name that has been mentioned with the position is Pochettino, who has been unemployed since leaving Paris Saint-Germain back in July.

Tottenham Hotspur fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with an easy one: Gareth Bale

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said this to say on whether or not rehiring Pochettino would be a good move for Spurs.

He said: “It would help because he knows the club and has been there before. When he did leave, it was about him getting the finances to go and push Tottenham on to the next level and he did not get that. That was why he left, in my opinion.

“After the Champions League final, if they had spent big and got the players in that he wanted we would maybe be talking about a different Tottenham team.

“They have gone backwards a little bit and I do not think it is the right idea to go back to someone who has been there before.

“Ultimately, I think if they want to break into that top four and really start challenging for trophies, they have to spend. They have to keep Harry Kane.

“The brand of football that Pochettino plays, that is why they want him back. It is exciting, it gets fans off their seats and they are just not seeing it under Conte.”

During his time with Spurs, the 51-year-old took charge of 293 matches across all competitions, winning 160 of them.

He even took the club to the Champions League final in 2019, as Hutton mentioned, and gave them a second-place finish in the Premier League at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Who would you rather see in charge of Tottenham next season?

Bearing in mind how it has been reported that several players and staff have been pleading with the Argentine to return to Tottenham.

Also, with the former PSG manager previously sharing his ambition to return to the Premier League, this could make him an easy appointment for Daniel Levy to make, and one that would presumably make a lot of supporters happy given how they recently shared their love for him.
