Former Tottenham Hotspur player Alan Hutton has shared his thoughts on Antonio Conte and his current situation at the north London club.
Following their 3-3 draw against Southampton in the Premier League, after seeing his side get knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League, the Italian launched a fiery verbal attack in his latest press conference criticising the players and ownership.
With his current contract at Spurs set to expire in the summer and his future in doubt, Hutton has shared their thoughts on the matter.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said this about Conte and the current state of affairs behind the scenes at Tottenham.
He said: “It is a really strange one. The season has been up and down, yet again it is going to be a trophyless season, so it is difficult for supporters.
“Conte is obviously under pressure as well. He was brought to the club to win something and that is not happening. As it stands, are they going to get top four? I am not so sure.
“He is questioning the players’ mentality. He is a winner, he has proven that, the players have not for a number of years. His contract is running down and it is a very strange situation.”
With recent reports suggesting that a decision is to be made regarding the 53-year-old’s future this evening, this will surely be a crucial moment in Spurs’ season.
Bearing in mind how some Tottenham fans have previously shared hopes of seeing Mauricio Pochettino make a return to the club and replace Conte, this shows how pleased they would seemingly be to see the current head coach leave.
Who would you rather see in charge of Spurs next season?
In fact, in a recent poll run on This Is Futbol, 79% of voters said they were not impressed with Conte’s press conference antics, with 86% voting in another poll that they would like to see him sacked.
Making a change would by no means guarantee success as their wait for major silverware drags on, but you can see how plenty would regard it as a step in the right direction.
