Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing Scott McTominay and James Maddison for potential summer transfer moves.

The Tyneside club have not been shy when it comes to approaching fellow English clubs to try and sign their players in recent years.

For example, names such as Dan Burn, Joe Willock, Matt Targett and Nick Pope have made moves to St. James’ Park from clubs across the country.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Now though, looking ahead to the next transfer window, the Magpies have already set their sights on another top-flight duo.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, McTominay and Maddison are two of the names on Newcastle’s transfer target list for the upcoming summer window.

Focusing on McTominay, this season has seen the Scotsman start just seven of the 16 Premier League games he’s appeared in, which could suggest that making a move away from Old Trafford to join Newcastle where he may have a better chance of playing regularly could be tempting for the 26-year-old.

Then with Maddison, he could be seen as a more exciting signing for the Toon to make given how he has scored nine goals and delivered five assists in 18 league outings this season.

Having also made two bids for the Englishman during the previous summer transfer window, it’s clear that the Tyneside club are big admirers of the player, who is set to enter the final year of his contract at Leicester City this summer.

Who would you rather see Newcastle sign this summer?

Bearing in mind how Newcastle saw Jonjo Shelvey leave the club in January, as well as having Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick out on loan, with Matty Longstaff out of contract this summer, it’s easy to see why Eddie Howe may want to add some extra players to his midfield such as McTominay and Maddison, who have a combined weekly wage of £170k-per-week.

All in all, given the top-flight experience the two midfielders have between them and Newcastle’s previous transfer record of signing players from English clubs, if they are able to land deals for both McTominay and Maddison, this could be a a smart double swoop for the Magpies to make.
