Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a summer transfer move for Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries.

While the Tyneside club have brought in a significant number of new players from fellow English clubs in recent years such as Dan Burn, Nick Pope, Joe Willock and Matt Targett, they have shown that they aren’t against signing players from foreign clubs such as Sven Botman from Lille and Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon.

Looking ahead to the next summer transfer window, it appears that the Magpies have already set their sights on another player currently making a name for himself in one of Europe’s top leagues but face some competition from one of their top-flight rivals.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

According to a recent report from La Repubblica (via Sport Witness), Inter are looking at possibly signing Juan Cuadrado from Juventus but would have to make sure they get rid of Dumfries at the same time, who Newcastle and fellow Premier League side Chelsea have their eyes on.

After making 124 appearances for previous club PSV Eindhoven, scoring 16 goals and delivering 20 assists along the way, the Dutchman joined Inter back in the 2021 summer transfer window.

Since then, the wing-back has scored seven goals and provided 12 assists in 75 appearances for the Italian club across all competitions.

Should Newcastle sign Denzel Dumfries this summer?

This season has seen the 26-year-old score one goal and supply five assists in 22 Serie A appearances, racking up the joint-highest number of carries into the penalty area (15) at Inter in the process.

Described as an “exciting and effective” player by journalist Jerry Mancini, Dumfries, who has the same agent as Erling Haaland, certainly has the attacking presence to be an appealing signing for Eddie Howe and give Newcastle an extra dynamic going forward.

Bearing in mind how the Toon have only been able to score three goals in their last eight league games, it could be a more attack-minded player that Howe looks to bring to St. James’ Park during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Moving forward, we feel that if Newcastle think the Inter star would be a suitable addition to their squad, they should do all they can to beat Chelsea to his signature.
