Newcastle United have reportedly opened in-house talks with Bruno Guimaraes over the possibility of him signing a new deal at the Tyneside club.

Since the Magpies were took over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the Toon have seen a lot of new players join Eddie Howe’s side.

Now though, it has been revealed that the club are aiming to offer a new contract to one of their players that arrived at Newcastle not long after the new owners did.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

According to a recent report from iG Esporte (via Sport Witness), Newcastle have opened talks with Guimaraes in an effort to see him extend his current deal at St. James’ Park, which is not set to expire until 2026.

The report also claims that the Toon are looking to increase the midfielder’s wages due to him impressive performances and importance to the team.

Since arriving at Newcastle from Olympique Lyon in the 2022 January transfer window for a fee of £40m, the midfielder has made 42 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions, scoring nine goals and delivering four assists in the process.

Has Bruno Guimaraes been Newcastle's best signing under PIF?

It didn’t take long for the Brazilian to make a name for himself at St. James’ Park and become a significant player for them as he ended his debut Premier League season as Newcastle’s third-highest rated player with an overall performance rating of 7.04/10 from WhoScored.

Things have been much the same for Guimaraes this season as well, as a performance rating of 7.25/10 from WhoScored has him listed as the second-highest rated player at the Tyneside club with three goals and three assists under his belt.

In fact, to further highlight how vital he is for the team, out of the six Premier League games they’ve played without him, the Magpies have failed to win any of them and have only been able to keep one clean sheet.

With Howe praising the Brazil international for his “magnificent” performances for the Toon, it’s easy to see why they are apparently looking to extend his deal.
