Former Premier League player and talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has shared his praise for Manchester United defender Luke Shaw and urged the club to secure him to a new contract.

Last month, it was reported that the Red Devils were looking to tie the full-back down to a new deal at Old Trafford, with his current one set to expire in the summer of 2024.

Having recently helped his side secure the Carabao Cup in the final against Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium, the Englishman has found himself on the end of some heavy praise by one pundit in particular.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor had this to say about Shaw, his efforts this season under Erik ten Hag and the possibility of him signing a new deal.

He said: “He’s the best in the Premier League, 100%. He’s been Mr. Versatile for them this season, his injury problems are all behind him – and he’s a really reliable player.

“Ben Chilwell has pushed him for England, but I can’t see anyone getting past Shaw for the next few years. He’s good technically, he’s good physically – he’s just a top player.

“Giving him this big new deal is a no-brainer for Man United, really. He looks like a new player under Erik ten Hag.”

With 20 Premier League appearances to his name this season, the 27-year-old has shown how useful he is for the team on an off the ball.

Would you like to see Luke Shaw sign a new deal at Man United?

No

No

For example, in terms of his endeavours on the ball, he has made more passes into the final third of the pitch (107) than any other United player.

Then in terms of his defensive output, the left-back has the joint-fourth highest combined total of tackles and interceptions  (59) at the club as well as the second-highest number of blocks (34) and third-highest for recoveries (120) and aerial duels won (28).

His overall performances in the league have earned the England international a season rating of 6.92/10 from WhoScored, making him the fifth-highest rated player at United to have started more than three league games.

Taking all of that into account, we feel that Shaw has very much earned the praise Agbonlahor has shared for him and that seeing him potentially sign a new deal at Old Trafford would be a smart move for the club to make.
